WR Marquise Goodwin reverts back to 49ers after opt out

Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Philadelphia Eagles last April but ultimately announced that he was opting out of the 2020 NFL season because of concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

As Charean Williams explained for Pro Football Talk, Goodwin's rights have reverted back to the 49ers per conditions of the trade. Additionally, Philadelphia will acquire San Francisco's original seventh-round pick for the 2021 NFL Draft. The Eagles also save $4.28 million in salary-cap space at a time when the cap is decreasing by nearly $16 million.

Goodwin likely won't have to get too comfortable in a 49ers uniform. San Francisco already moved on from him nearly a year ago, and his contract does not contain any type of dead-cap hit if the 49ers cut him, according to Spotrac

The 30-year-old recorded 140 receptions for 2,323 yards and 13 touchdowns over his first seven NFL seasons.
