The Chicago Bears are adding depth to the wide receiver room with a familiar face. Ryan Poles is bringing back former Bears receiver, Dante Pettis, who did not play in the NFL in 2023. But he did begin to develop a rapport with quarterback Justin Fields as the 2022 season progressed.

Pettis is most well-known for one moment in his previous tenure with the Bears. During a Week 1 upset over the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 — otherwise known as the flood game — Justin Fields was nearly sacked on a 3rd and 9.

But after a wild scramble, Fields connected with a wide-open Dante Pettis and turned it into a 51-yard touchdown.

Bears Signing WR Dante Pettis

Late Thursday night, the Bears traded a fourth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for Pro Bowl receiver, Keenan Allen. Not even a day later, General Manager Ryan Poles brought in another wide receiver, Dante Pettis, who provides instant, veteran depth at the position.

Pettis appeared in all 17 games for the Chicago Bears in 2022, starting seven games. He caught 19 passes for over 240 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns.

The 28-year-old also played a significant role on Special Teams for the Bears. Pettis returned 18 punts for over 160 yards in Chicago.
