The Giants need to find a true WR1 in free agency
USA TODAY Sports

Just take a moment and ponder: When was the last time the New York Football Giants had a playmaking, dangerous, and talented wide receiver one?

Yup, there it is, Kenny Golladay.

No, actually, that was just one of the worst signings in franchise history.

The Giant have not had a true WR1 since Odell Beckham Jr., and he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in March of 2019. Which means his last season was in 2018. It is 2024, and the Giants still do not have a wide receiver one. Right now, the Giants have a bit more than $22 million dollars in cap space, before cuts/restructures and adding in the cost of the 2024 draft class.

No offense to Kenny Golladay, but his tenure in New York was atrocious. Golladay was electric for the Lions, but not for the Giants, and that was the last time the Giants went out and tried to sign a big name. There is a wild amount of talented recievers in the free agency pool this year, however, not all of them are going to leave their teams.

But, that shouldn't stop the Giants from taking a shot, if they can.

Cincinnati Bengals' wide receiver Tee Higgins is set to be a free agent. Higgins is 6-foot-4, young, fast, and can catch anything thrown to him. Higgins is a WR2 in Cincy due his sensational teammate, Ja'Marr Chase. Higgins would keep the same status in Cincy, but he would be loved and cherished in New York as the top guy.

Another name to look at is Indianapolis Colts' receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman is coming off a career year, accounting for 109 receptions, 1,152 yards, and four touchdowns. This season was mostly with a backup quarterback, and two other decent receivers.

If you are reading this Michael Pittman, just know Wandale Robinson will be your best friend on and off the field, breaking records and creating more.

Lastly, there is one more name to take into consideration. Calvin Ridley from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley's route running and quickness is top five in the NFL. Underneath an offense that is entirely ran through him, Ridley would absolutely thrive. Ridley had a decent enough season after serving suspension from the NFL, but with him in blue, the Giants would be set.

Even known this is all just talk, right now, maybe one day John Mara could be a gutsy owner and create something for this team.
