Stats suggest Giants QB Daniel Jones on pace for career season?

New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones continues to be a polarizing figure among the team's fan base even with "Big Blue" at 2-0 heading into the upcoming "Monday Night Football" home game against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys (1-1). 

Per ESPN stats, Jones entered Wednesday ninth among eligible quarterbacks with a 99.4 passer rating but 28th overall with a 30.2 total QBR. The 25-year-old in the last year of his rookie contract is also 28th with 364 total passing yards, but C Jackson Cowart of Action Network (h/t New York Post) offered additional numbers that show Jones may be on the cusp of having his best overall season under first-year head coach and former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. 

"Jones is also currently on pace for career bests in completion rate (70.9 percent), touchdown rate (5.5 percent), and interception rate (1.8 percent), and his two game-winning drives thus far are already tied for his most in a season since he was drafted sixth overall in 2019," Cowart noted. 

Cowart also correctly pointed out that Jones has been helped out by the fact that Saquon Barkley of the Giants leads the entire NFL in rushing yards after two weeks with 236. 

Understandably, many remain unconvinced Jones can prove to be the Giants' long-term answer at the sport's most important position. As Mike Rosenstein of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com explained, New York sports radio legend Mike Francesa recently suggested during his podcast that Jones may be doing more harm than good as it pertains to the New York offense ahead of the official start of fall. 

"I don’t think Daniel Jones [is the Giants' future]. The Giants won in spite of Daniel Jones. ... I have not seen anything from Daniel Jones that would move him forward," Francesa remarked. 

Perhaps the most concerning stat regarding Jones is that the Giants rank 31st out of 32 teams in passing yards with a paltry average of 159.0 yards through the air per game. That type of production likely won't cut it for Daboll or general manager Joe Schoen, neither of whom had anything to do with the franchise grabbing Jones in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
