Star Rams CB Jalen Ramsey addresses Lions WR's Motor City pitch

Los Angeles Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be on the market. A standout receiver is already making a pitch for him.

"Jalen, if you can hear this, I know you played with (Lions quarterback Jared) Goff before ... Detroit might seem like a landing spot for you, my guy. Talk to me,” Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown said on a recent podcast, per the Detroit News.

In a social media response to St. Brown, Ramsey acknowledged the interest and Los Angeles' efforts to get the Lions into the playoffs in Week 18. The Rams lost to Seattle, which earned the final seed.

The Lions desperately need cornerback help after giving up the third-most passing yards in 2022. While it would take some cap maneuvering, they could fit Ramsey’s salary. The addition of the Pro Bowler would instantly upgrade Detroit's back end and address its biggest weakness.

The Rams are a little more than $16 million over the cap, per Spotrac, and don't have a first-round pick because of the Matthew Stafford trade with the Lions. Dealing Ramsey could be a cost-cutting move and the best way to recoup draft picks.

If the Rams make Ramsey a post-June 1 trade, he’d clear $17 million from their cap. If the Rams traded Ramsey before June, he’d only save roughly $5.6 million against the cap.

Speculation about Detroit's desire to add Ramsey will likely continue through the offseason. The Rams haven’t officially made Ramsey available. If they do, he will have many suitors.
