Sports world reacts to Nick Chubb's gruesome injury

Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome leg injury early in the second quarter of Cleveland's Monday night game at Pittsburgh.

The injury was too gruesome for "Monday Night Football" to rebroadcast and is a devastating blow for one of the game's most respected players.

As ESPN's Adam Schefter noted on social media, Chubb's injury occurred to the same leg he suffered a serious knee injury in college at Georgia in 2015.

Analysts and athletes were among those who offered their condolences to Chubb online, including NBA great and Ohio native LeBron James. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray were among the other athletes to wish Chubb well.

As ESPN's Ed Werder noted, his injury comes after a summer when the value of running backs was a major point of contention.

Per NFL.com, Chubb was the last running back to receive a long-term contract worth at least $10M per year, doing so in 2021 when he signed a three-year, $36M extension with the Browns.

When discussing the deprecation of running backs' value this summer, Chubb said, "I would say if we're taking the most risk and doing the most, then we should be valued more."

Chubb had 10 carries for 64 yards before his injury. His 6,511 rushing yards since entering the league in 2018 are the second-most among active running backs.
