Seahawks HC Pete Carroll: DK Metcalf 'has shown a very good mentality'

Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf is similar to Tennessee Titans receiver A.J. Brown and Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers in that all three are in the final seasons of their contracts and on track to sign significant deals sooner than later, either with their current employers or with different teams.

Samuel has reportedly asked the 49ers to trade him, but neither Brown nor Metcalf has yet made such a request. Metcalf seemed to dedicate his future to Seattle when he remarked last month after the club traded quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos and released All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner that "it's time for me to step up and be a leader."

Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Metcalf is among Seattle players participating in the voluntary offseason program this spring, and head coach Pete Carroll said that the 24-year-old "has shown a very good mentality" reporting for such optional workouts. Carroll added Metcalf's contract beyond the 2022 season likely won't be addressed before the summer:

The Seahawks allegedly aren't listening to offers regarding Metcalf's services before the upcoming draft opens next Thursday night, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't sell him for assets in next year's player-selection process this summer.

Of course, Seattle's plans for the 2022 campaign could change if the club lands former Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Baker Mayfield via a trade or as a free agent if he's cut by Cleveland after the draft.
