The big news out of the NFL yesterday was WR Mike Williams signing with the New York Jets. When healthy, the 29-year old wide receiver has been one of the more dynamic and explosive pass-catchers in the league, though that pesky aforementioned health will always be an underlying concern.
The Super Bowl market did not blink at the Williams addition, as the New York Jets remained +3000 to win it all next season after news broke of the Williams signing.
However, if you are a believer that Williams, paired with Garrett Wilson, can help propel a strong year from New York, there are a few betting angles you may want to consider.
We would have preferred seeing plus-odds for this wager, the AFC has no shortage of talent, but one thing going in New York's favor is of course the return of Aaron Rodgers. However, the Jets have a relatively tough schedule, drawing the NFC West and AFC South.
If you like them to make a playoff push, a more logical betting spot to go may be in some individual awards.
This time last year, Rodgers was a popular MVP pick as he joined Gang Green, is it so inconceivable to suggest he may now be a value look in this market?
An Achilles injury at his age is no joke, and there's no guarantee that Rodgers will be able to regain his previous form, but he's had a full year to recover, and the talented pieces are still there throughout.
Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams and Breece Hall is a quality trio of weapons, and what if New York made a splash draft pick and took say, Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers?
Betting markets currently have tight end as the favorite to be the Jets first selection at +125, and reading between the lines, that is very much Bowers. If he joined this offense, that's about as formidable of a group as you'll see in the NFL, which would surely in turn help Rodgers's case for a big statistical season.
If you're bullish on this Mike Williams signing, this may be the direction to go.
