Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford Still Among NFL’s Elite
Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams are beginning to seriously contemplate a succession plan for Matthew Stafford.

However, this doesn’t diminish Stafford’s current prowess on the field.

In 2023, Stafford showcased some of his most impressive performances to date. He amassed 3,965 passing yards, along with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Particularly noteworthy was his leadership during a 6-1 run that propelled the Rams into the playoffs.

Such stellar play earned Stafford recognition among the NFL elite, as evidenced by his recent ranking in a Bleacher Report quarterback assessment.

“While Stafford may be among the NFL’s elder statesmen, he’s still capable of making throws that few quarterbacks in the NFL would even attempt. His ability to make jaw-dropping, off-platform throws with pinpoint accuracy made Stafford a football unicorn long before Mahomes and Allen took over.”

Stafford’s brilliance shone brightly during the Rams’ playoff clash with the Detroit Lions. Despite nursing injuries, he delivered a remarkable performance, throwing for nearly 400 yards and two touchdowns. Even in his fifteenth season, Stafford nearly guided the Rams to a playoff victory against a formidable Lions team.

As such, Stafford continues to be regarded as part of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. While the Los Angeles Rams are contemplating their future signal-caller, if Matthew Stafford maintains his exceptional level of play, his successor may need to bide their time until he decides to relinquish his role.
