Kareem Hunt’s free agency takes an interesting twist

Kareem Hunt’s free agency took an interesting twist on Tuesday.

Hunt took a free agent visit with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday that was said to have gone well. Several NFL reporters described the visit as having gone “great.”

Though Hunt had a “great” visit with the Saints, he left without signing a deal because he made plans to visit the Indianapolis Colts.

According to ESPN reporter Dianna Russini, the Colts called Hunt (or Hunt’s agent) prior to the running back’s visit with the Saints and offered him more money. Hunt was advised to go meet with Indianapolis.

The Saints need a running back because Eno Benjamin is out with a torn Achilles tendon, and Alvin Kamara is set to serve a three-game a suspension. But they don’t need a quality running back as badly as Indianapolis, which is in a contract standoff with Jonathan Taylor.

Hunt, 28, spent the last four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He rushed for 468 rushing yards and three touchdowns last season, and caught 35 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown. In addition to the Saints and Colts, another NFC team had interest in Hunt this offseason.
