Injury Update: Wright and Thomas Underwent Surgery Today.
USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns announced today that both second year defensive ends Alex Wright, and Isaiah Thomas underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair their injured knees Tuesday at University Hospitals. The surgeries were performed by Browns head team physician Dr. James Voos.

Both players will require several weeks of rehab and are expected to make a full recovery early in the season. According to the team, Wright's injury took place during the Browns preseason game last Thursday and Thomas was injured during practice on Saturday.

They were both drafted last year by the Browns and they each saw a significant number of snaps as rookies. It is comforting to know that the timeline should be early into the season although no specific timetable was given.

I will be paying close attention to what the team decides to do with any roster or injury designations, as that could have a huge impact on how long either player will be out. Any designation could also have implications for other players attempting to make the final 53 man roster or practice squad.

With Wright and Thomas missing time, that will put a magnifying glass on the Browns rookie fourth-round pick, Isaiah McGuire. He will definitely receive more preseason snaps and possibly be asked to take meaningful snaps at the beginning of the season for the team as they face off against all of their divisional foes in the first four weeks of the season. This will be an opportunity to see what we may have in him earlier than expected.
