Giants coach Joe Judge defends Daniel Jones: 'I think he's shown a lot of promise'

Are Daniel Jones' days as the New York Giants starting quarterback numbered? The second-year quarterback has struggled to show much improvement this season, as he has continued to turn the ball over at an alarming rate. But Giants head coach Joe Judge made it clear he still believes in his quarterback and says that critics are overlooking the good parts of Jones' game, choosing to only focus on the bad.

"Sometimes we have to be a little bit more calculated about how we want to systematically move the ball down the field," Judge said. "That being said, look, I think Daniel is a developing player. I think he's shown a lot of promise, he's making a lot of gains this year."

The Giants have been anemic on offense so far this season, ranking 31st in the league in yards and points per game (ahead of only the New York Jets in both categories). And while losing Saquon Barkley has certainly hurt their ability to move the ball and score, if Jones really is the answer at quarterback, he needs to show more than he has through his 21 career starts.

The biggest issue for Jones continues to be turnovers, as he has turned the ball over a combined 16 times this year, while only throwing for eight touchdowns. It's clear that Jones has talent but his poor decision making and lack of poise is hurting the Giants' ability to stay in games, which is why they are only 2-7.

Fortunately, they play in the historically bad NFC East, so if Jones can cut down on turnovers, they could manage to sneak into the playoff picture, as the Eagles, Cowboys and Washington Football Team all have their own massive issues when it comes to winning games.
