After last year’s loss to the Green Bay Packers with Brett Rypien struggling in place of the injured Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams have made the backup quarterback position a priority.

The team brought in Carson Wentz to end last season and he actually got a start in Week 18 and led the Rams to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

While a return to the Rams seemed to be a possibility for Wentz heading into the offseason, they decided to go a different direction by bringing in Jimmy Garoppolo to be Stafford’s backup in 2024.

That left Wentz searching for a new home for the 2024 season and he has finally found one, signing a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, per Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report:

This is a solid landing spot for Wentz this late in the offseason as he will get the opportunity to back up Patrick Mahomes in 2024, being able to learn from both him and head coach Andy Reid.

While Wentz’s stint with the Rams was a short one, it was productive for both parties. The 31-year-old found himself out of the league completely before signing with L.A., and in his short time with the team, he was able to win a game and re-establish his value around the league in order to get this gig with the Chiefs.

In his one start with the Rams, Wentz completed 17-of-24 passes for 163 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. He also rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Wentz likely still views himself as a starter, but the league has shown that they feel differently so credit to him for being accepting of a backup role first with the Rams and now with the Chiefs.

Stetson Bennett expected to participate in Rams’ offseason workouts

Outside of Stafford and Garoppolo, the Rams have another quarterback in the organization in Stetson Bennett. He was away from the team for a majority of his rookie season due to personal reasons but the expectation is that he will return to the team and participate in workouts this offseason.
