Former Giants WR Hakeem Nicks selling Super Bowl XLVI ring

Former New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was one of the true heroes of the club's famous Super Bowl XLVI victory over the New England Patriots in February 2012.

Nicks, a first-round selection from the 2009 NFL Draft, recorded a game-high 10 catches for 109 yards in a contest that saw Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw accidentally score the title-winning touchdown with under a minute to play in regulation. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady nearly connected on what would've been a walk-off Hail-Mary pass, but it wasn't to be.

TMZ Sports first reported Wednesday that Nicks is selling his Super Bowl XLVI ring via a Heritage Auctions post. As of Wednesday around noon ET, the bid for the piece of football history was at $26,000.

"A mine's worth of diamonds and blue sapphires coat the face which features the team logo 'NY' and four miniature Lombardi Trophies to represent the franchise tally," reads a portion of the Heritage description for the ring. "'New York Giants 2011 World Champions' stands in block lettering at the perimeter. Left shank reports the original owner's surname and jersey number, another team logo and the franchise's years of Championship glory. The list of championship seasons is completed on the right shank beneath another team logo, the Lombardi Trophy in miniature, and the final score of the game. Interior band bears the text, 'All In' and 'Finish,' as well as 'T&C AU .585' stamping, indicating fourteen karat gold construction by famed jeweler Tiffany & Co."

TMZ notes it's unclear exactly why Nicks has chosen now to sell the ring but added that a portion of the proceeds from the transaction will go to at least one charitable cause. Bidding ends on Saturday, and the ring carries an estimated value of $80,000.

Nicks last played in an NFL game during the 2015 season. Across 92 career pro contests, he tallied 356 receptions for 5,081 yards and 31 touchdowns.
