Former Cleveland Browns Star Wide Receiver Said He Stayed Quiet In Cleveland Because He Didn’t Like What Was Going On

The 31-year-old receiver was out of football last season and hasn’t played since he suited up for the New Orleans Saints in 2022. he tweeted Thursday night, “I would never believe some of these guys are better than me. I just can’t see it !!.” Landry was talking about other receivers getting signed to huge contracts this week during the start of the NFL free agency period. Landry knows in his heart that some of these guys who are getting signed are not better than him, and he is still sitting at home with no offer. 

Landry Wanted To Come Back To The Cleveland Browns

Landry then responded to a tweet that said you should have stayed in Cleveland, tweeting, “I tried to. I asked to restructure and was told, “Hold up.” Then, the next thing you know, another WR was signed, and I got my walking papers.”

Cleary Landry was not ready to leave Cleveland. The Browns had other plans and wanted no part of bringing him back. Cleveland made a trade for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper that March, so I’m assuming that was the wide receiver Landry was referring to taking his spot.

Landry Stayed Quiet In Cleveland

The last thing that caught my eye was Landry talking about staying quiet in Cleveland because he didn’t like what was happening. He said, “I stayed quiet in CLE because I didn’t like what was happening and was hoping for a better resolution. We had a team that was one play away from playing for the AFC championship, and having the team we started with together would have played a big role in it, and I saw that bigger.”

The only thing I can think of that Landry didn’t like in Cleveland was the 2021 season when the Browns were coming off a loss in the divisional round to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC playoffs. Quarterback Baker Mayfield hurt his shoulder in Week Two and was never the same after that. The team released Landry’s buddy Odell Beckham Jr because Odell’s father put out a video of all the times his son was open, and Mayfield missed him, and there was tension in the locker room, and Beckham couldn’t be on the team. 

Landry and Beckham played college football together at LSU and were excited to reunite with the Browns in 2019, but those two and Mayfield never worked together, and Mayfield had better success when Beckham wasn’t on the field. 

After getting rid of Beckham, the Browns had to move off Landry, and the organization knew it would never be the same again after Landry saw his best friend get released. 

When Landry came to the Browns in 2018, they were coming off a 0-16 season, and he played a massive part in changing the culture. He helped teach the younger guys like Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb, and Denzel Ward what it meant to be pros in the NFL, and he still has a significant effect on the locker room today.
