Defensive lineman puts Titans on blast hours after being released

Around 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday evening, the Tennessee Titans rather innocently released defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson.

Approximately two-and-a-half hours later, Johnson put the Titans on blast via social media, calling out both the front office for what’s wrong with the team, which is currently 3-7 and last place in the AFC South. (language warning)

While controversial, Johnson’s remarks aren’t inaccurate.

Tennessee’s biggest offseason acquisitions — edge-rusher Arden Key, middle linebacker Azeez Al-Shair and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting — all came on defense, while the team’s biggest areas of need on offense (tackle, guard) were ignored.

The Titans signed left tackle Andre Dillard, but he’s been the team’s biggest liability on the offensive line. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins is the only free-agent addition that’s made a noticeable impact on offense.

Johnson also seemingly took a parting shot at the Titans coaching staff in another tweet referencing former All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, who was traded nearly four weeks ago to the first-place Philadelphia Eagles.

Byard told reporters last week that though he wanted to retire a Titan, he was glad the organization sent him to a team where he has a chance to win a Super Bowl.

The 29-year-old Johnson deleted the tweets minutes later and sent another one stating he was going to miss playing in in Tennessee.

Johnson played in six games for the Titans this season, recording 12 tackles, six run stops, one pressure and one hurry while playing 91 defensive snaps.

He joined the Titans this season after stints with the Minnesota Vikings (2018-20), Houston Texans (2021-22) and Atlanta Falcons (2022).
