Dallas Cowboys Named A Top Fit For Free Agent Star Safety
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys have a pair of terrific cornerbacks in Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, but their safety group could use some work.

Due to financial constraints, the Cowboys were unable to pursue any of the top safeties on the market in free agency, but there are still a couple of guys out there who could represent viable options.

Nick Pedone of Pro Football Network cites Jamal Adams as an example.

There was a time when Adams was one of the best defensive backs in football, but those days are long gone. He played in just 10 games with the Seattle Seahawks over the last two years, logging 51 tackles and three passes defended in that span. The Seahawks cut him before free agency.

But perhaps Adams can still work in a rotational role?

Adams, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

The 28-year-old spent the first three years of his career with the Jets, breaking out in his second season after registering 115 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 12 passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Then, the following year, Adams had arguably the best season of his career, racking up 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a pick, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, seven passes defended and a defensive touchdown. Not only did he make his second straight trip to the Pro Bowl, but he earned a First-Team All-Pro selection.

That ensuing offseason, New York dealt Adams to Seattle, and while he notched his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod in his debut campaign with the Seahawks after rattling off 83 tackles and 9.5 sacks, he has been a massive disappointment ever since.

Maybe a change of scenery is what Adams needs, and he certainly wouldn’t cost too much money for the cash-strapped Cowboys.
