Chiefs trade up to select Washington CB Trent McDuffie

The Kansas City Chiefs made a move to bolster their secondary, drafting Washington defensive back Trent McDuffie in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Chiefs moved up from No. 29 to No. 21 in a trade with the New England Patriots to select McDuffie.

The Chiefs traded their first-round pick (29), a third-round pick (94), and a fourth-round pick (121) to the Patriots in exchange for the No. 21 choice.

McDuffie was named First-Team All-Pac 12 last season. He finished with 35 tackles, a sack, and six passes defended in 11 games for the Huskies last season.

In 2019, McDuffie started 11 games as a freshman, finishing with 45 tackles, an interception, two passes defended, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

In 27 games at Washington, McDuffie had 94 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and eight passes defended.

McDuffie was the third cornerback chosen in Thursday night's first round. LSU's Derek Stingley Jr. was the first cornerback off the board, selected at No. 3 by the Houston Texans. Cincinnati's Ahmad Gardner was the second cornerback chosen, going No. 4 to the New York Jets.
