Chiefs Named Destination For Former All-Pro Offensive Weapon
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have already signed a key offensive threat in wide receiver Marquise Brown, but could they add another weapon in free agency?

Lorenzo Reyna of Pro Football Network thinks the Chiefs could pursue versatile playmaker Cordarrelle Patterson, who is still available well over a week into the free-agent period.

Patterson is one of the most unique players in football, as he plays running back and wide receiver while also being featured on special teams.

That being said, the 33-year-old absolutely showed signs of a serious decline with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023, rushing for just 181 yards while logging nine catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in what was easily the least productive campaign of his NFL career.

Patterson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Tennessee, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 29th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He immediately made the Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection during his rookie year after totaling 158 yards and three scores on the ground while also catching 45 passes for 469 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, Patterson punched in two kick-return scores.

Patterson spent the first four years of his career with the Vikings, earning two Pro Bowl nods and a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections.

Since then, he has played for the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and, most recently, the Falcons.

Overall, Patterson has made four trips to the Pro Bowl and has notched First-Team All-Pro honors four times, as well.

He is just two years removed from registering 695 yards while reaching the end zone eight times as a rusher, so perhaps Patterson still has something left in the tank.

Patterson would certainly be an interesting pickup for the Chiefs, as it would be fun to watch head coach Andy Reid incorporate him into the offense.

Of course, with kick returns becoming less and less of a thing, Patterson’s usefulness may be wearing off.
