Chargers HC Brandon Staley snaps over questions about defensive playcalling

The problem for Staley – and the reason he keeps getting asked these questions – is that he came to Los Angeles with a reputation for being a defensive coach. 

His defenses have been a consistent problem with the Chargers and have completely wasted the early portion of quarterback Justin Herbert's career.

Herbert puts up huge numbers every week and plays like a championship-caliber quarterback, making impossible throws and highlight-reel plays all over the field. But the Chargers have consistently fielded one of the worst defenses in football, one which is too porous for the offense to overcome. That defense is why the Chargers have made the playoffs just once in Herbert's first three years and seem to be on their way to another non-playoff finish this season.

The Chargers entered Sunday's game ranked 24th in the NFL in points against and 31st in yards against. 

During Sunday's loss, they allowed Jordan Love and a bad Packers offense to gain 397 yards of total offense and put 23 points on the board.

That defense is only likely to get worse if Joey Bosa misses significant time after leaving Sunday's game with an injury.
