Bills' three-time Pro Bowler sends cryptic tweet that has fans bracing for bad news
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins has fans overthinking a few days after the front office went on a releasing spree by cutting five players on Wednesday.

Dawkins sent a cryptic message on Twitter/X that raised some eyebrows as the three-time Pro Bowler seemed to suggest a future in Buffalo is not a guarantee. You can see the post below.

Dawkins is entering a contract year in 2024 with a $500,000 roster bonus coming due on March 18th.

Perhaps his message is simply implying he wishes to be extended before the season or maybe he's dealing with the emotions of seeing multiple teammates get the axe leading up to this year's free agency frenzy.

Some fans have taken it as a sign of a looming extension but some have pointed toward the sad face emoji and walking man emoji as signs that it might be teasing some uncertainty about potentially leaving Buffalo. Bills Mafia sure wishes it's the former rather than the latter as the offensive line would take a major hit if he was to leave.

If the Bills were to release Dawkins as they navigate a complicated salary cap situation, they could save $4.87 million, per Over the Cap. If this is the direction the front office is leaning (which remains unclear), the Bills would likely get compensation if they were to put him on the trading block as this year's free agency class is quite thin at tackle behind Dallas Cowboys' future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith.

All that Bills Mafia can do for now is hope for the best: An extension for Dawkins that keeps Josh Allen's blindside protected over the long term.
