2 Things To Know About New 49ers CB Janoris Jenkins
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers may be in first place in the NFC West with a 7-4 record, but they’ve also been banged up, especially on the defensive side of the football.

Emmanuel Moseley, one of their starting cornerbacks, has been out for several weeks with a torn ACL, and he is expected to miss the entire balance of the season as a result.

Offseason acquisition Charvarius Ward has been outstanding, but the other cornerback position has been a bit underwhelming.

To that end, the team signed veteran corner Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins on Monday.

As Jenkins has been added to San Francisco’s practice squad, it remains to be seen if he ever gets onto the field for any snaps during actual games.

He is certainly an intriguing addition, if not one that will move the needle.

Jenkins Has Been One Of The NFL’s More Productive Corners

In 10 pro seasons, Jenkins has shown the ability to be a difference-maker.

He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2016 as a member of the New York Giants, and he has recorded double-digit passes defended in seven seasons, as well as eight touchdowns off interceptions.

At age 34, perhaps he isn’t what he was several years ago, as he only had six passes defended and one interception last season for the Tennessee Titans.

Jenkins has not played in a single game to date this season.

Jenkins Has Had Several Off-The-Field Issues

Jenkins has had some trouble over the years staying out of trouble.

While at the University of Florida, he was arrested for allegedly punching a man in the head, and when he resisted arrest, law enforcement ended up using a taser on him.

In 2018, he found himself involved in a spooky incident when a dead body was found in his Bergen County, N.J. home.

The body was that of a family friend who had been staying at his residence, and while Jenkins did not face any consequences, his brother, William Jenkins, became a person of interest.

William Jenkins was eventually charged with aggravated manslaughter.
