Former NBA star says Anthony Edwards becomes face of the NBA if Wolves knock off Nuggets

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently boast a two-game lead over the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. If the Timberwolves win the series, they would have defeated the reigning champions and the media's top pick for the 2024 NBA championship.

According to former All-Star Tracy McGrady, Anthony Edwards will position himself as the future face of the NBA if his team overcomes the Nuggets.

"If Ant Man pulls this off against the Denver Nuggets, move out of the way Jayson Tatum," McGrady said. "Move out of the way, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander. Ant Man is the face of this league. Because that team is so good, these guys play so well together...Ant Man pulls this off, LeBron, Steph, there's a new sheriff in town."

So far in the playoffs, Edwards is averaging 32.3 points, 5.8 assists and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 61.2% from two-point range and 41.9% from the perimeter. His fearlessness has endeared him to the wider NBA audience.

If Edwards can help his team overcome the giant that is Denver, he will rightly be discussed as one of the best young talents in the NBA. Of course, for him to sustain that title, he must continue to improve his game and help his team win on the biggest stage. Entering the season, nobody was expecting the Timberwolves to be a contending team. Suddenly, they look capable of making a run to the NBA Finals.

Edwards is enjoying a break-out period. He's proving himself as a superstar of the future. However, it's worth remembering that it's only been six games. Now, he needs to prove he can sustain this level of production for the entirety of his team's playoff run. If he can, the rest of the NBA has to sit up and take notice.
