Washington Huskies Hire Son of Pete Carroll, Brennan, to Fill 2024 Offensive Coordinator Vacancy
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Huskies named Brennan Carroll, son of longtime Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, their offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in an announcement Wednesday.

Carroll spent six seasons under his father at Seattle before becoming the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Arizona Wildcats. Carroll is following former Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch to the Huskies after just three years in Arizona.

In an article from Sports Illustrated, Fisch said he wanted to bring some of his guys, but would be open to keeping some of the coaches from the previous regime.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said. “I think we’re just going to work through really who’s coming. We’ve got to open up a bunch of spots and we’ve got to figure out exactly what we’re going to do. There are some guys we’re going to bring for sure and then, as we continue to figure who wants to be in Tucson or who wants to be in Seattle or who wants to go somewhere.”

Before coaching under his father at Seattle, Brennan Carroll coached under his father for the USC Trojans. Brennan Carroll stayed with USC until Pete Carroll left as it was announced that newly hired coach Lane Kiffin would not retain him. He moved on to coach tight ends and wide receivers for the Miami Hurricanes before reuniting with his father in Seattle.

Many Washington fans are excited to have a tie to Pete Carroll on the Huskies’ sideline.

New Washington Huskies offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll put together a solid offense at Arizona

Although Arizona’s most recent recruiting class under head coach Jedd Fisch worked its way up to being top-25 in the nation, the classes that Fisch and Carroll were working with in 2023 were not so high.

The 2021 Arizona recruiting class was ranked 75th in the nation by 247Sports, which means the feats accomplished by Fisch and Carroll’s offense in the 2023 season are that much more impressive.

With lesser talent, Carroll’s offense found its way into the top-20 in total offense with an average of 448 yards per game. The Wildcats were 19th in points per game with 34.6. Only USC, Washington and the Oregon Ducks were higher-scoring teams in the Pac-12.

Carroll and Fisch led the Wildcats to a 10-3 record along with an Alamo Bowl victory against the Oklahoma Sooners.

New Washington Huskies offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll coached one of the best quarterbacks in the NCAA

The quarterback for the Arizona Wildcats for the majority of the 2023 season was freshman Noah Fifita. Fifita did not throw more than four times in the first three games of the season, and erupted as one of the best QBs in the nation during the latter portion of the season.

Fifita finished with nearly 3,000 yards passing with just six interceptions. He had 25 passing touchdowns on the year with two five-touchdown performances.

Fifita never threw for less than 200 yards in a full game, and he never threw more than one interception in a game. He even broke the school’s single-game record in a victory over their in-state rival, the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Carroll and Fisch had success coaching a great Pac-12 offense, but their ability to replicate that offense in the Big Ten is yet to be seen.
