Report: Texas Pursuing Purdue Transfer WR Deion Burks

The Texas Longhorns may have the best group of pass catchers in the country, but their receiving corps could much different

Both Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell have been discussed as possible first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders is close behind them. Fifth-year senior Jordan Whittington is also worthy of being selected in the draft, which realistically means that Texas could lose an absurd amount of production consisting of 201 catches, 2,824 yards receiving, and 18 receiving touchdowns on the year.

While they do have a promising youngster in freshman Johntay Cook II and five-star Ryan Wingo in their 2024 recruiting class, it is clear why they are already reportedly going after some of the top pass catchers in the transfer portal. In addition to reportedly being after South Carolina's Juice Wells, according to On3 , they are also after Purdue transfer Deion Burks.

While Burks is eligible for the NFL Draft, he has decided to test the transfer portal waters after a career year at Purdue. He finished with 47 catches for 629 yards, while adding seven touchdowns.

The Longhorns are making a major push for him, as are programs such as Miami, Oklahoma, USC, Washington, Oregon, and Utah among many others. He has proven to be someone who seemingly always manages to get open, and is also extremely hard to bring down in open space.

He would automatically assert himself as the top pass catcher for the Longhorns should he choose to come to Austin, and would give Quinn Ewers a much-needed versatile weapon.

He ranks as the No. 13 overall player in the portal, and ranks as the No. 3 receiver.
